Cultural heritage

Cultural heritage looks at landscape as memory, identity and historical continuity. It concerns the traces earlier generations leave in the land, from monuments and field patterns to place names and customary uses, and the ways communities value, protect and reinterpret them. Research in this theme spans conservation practice, heritage policy and the more difficult questions of whose heritage is recognised and whose is overlooked. It connects closely with landscape justice and environmental humanities, treating heritage not as a fixed inheritance but as something continually remade as people negotiate what matters about a place and why.
