Share your work with LEX

Got a landscape story, artwork, idea or perspective worth sharing?

The Landscape Exchange (LEX) is the Landscape Research Group’s online magazine for accessible, engaging ideas about landscape.

We publish writing, conversations, images, artwork, audio, video and creative work from people working across research, practice, communities and creative fields around the world.

LEX complements our peer-reviewed journal, Landscape Research, but has a different purpose: to help landscape ideas travel and reach wider audiences.

Share your work as an LRG member

Publishing through LEX is one of the ways LRG members can share their work, ideas and perspectives with our international community. Members can pitch or submit contributions at any time, with opportunities to reach new audiences through LEX and wider LRG communications.

What makes a good LEX contribution?

Bring us an idea, story, experience, question, form of expression, argument or way of seeing landscape that offers something worth exploring.

Whatever the subject:

Draw your audience in. Make your contribution accessible beyond your immediate field and explain specialist ideas where needed.

Be grounded and trustworthy. Contributions should be accurate and grounded in relevant research, practice, evidence, experience or observation.

Give us enough context. Local and highly specific stories are welcome — help our international audience understand where they are and why it matters.

Open up the conversation. Leave your audience with a new question, connection, perspective or possibility.

We welcome work across disciplines, professions, communities, places and ways of knowing, but this is not a requirement.

What can I contribute?

These are starting points, not rigid categories.
If your idea works better in another form — or combines several — pitch it to us.

Think visually

LEX is an online magazine, so how a contribution looks, sounds and works on screen matters.

Where relevant, provide a strong lead image and visual or multimedia material that helps communicate your work, together with appropriate captions and credits.

Themes and ideas

Your contribution may connect with LRG’s current research themes, including Climate Communities: People and Landscape in an Age of Change — but it doesn’t have to.

We welcome compelling ideas, perspectives and creative responses from across the breadth of landscape research and practice.

Want help shaping your contribution?

Our Contributing to LEX → guide offers practical ideas for developing written, visual, audio and creative work for online audiences.

Keep in mind

Be inclusive. Respect people, communities, cultures and ways of knowing, and follow appropriate consent and ethical processes.

Be transparent. Tell us about relevant funding, professional or commercial interests, previous publication and any substantive use of generative AI.

Languages

LEX welcomes submissions in any language.

Where a contribution is accepted, we aim to publish it both in its original language and in English. Where possible, we ask contributors to provide or arrange an English translation and approve the final version.

If translation would create a barrier to submitting, talk to us and we’ll explore what support may be possible.
