What we do
The Landscape Research Group is an independent, international charity that has advanced the understanding and stewardship of landscape since 1967. Our work falls into four connected areas: we publish, we connect people, we fund research, and we convene the field to learn together.
Landscape sits at the meeting point of people, place and environment, and no single discipline owns it. We exist to help knowledge about landscape travel further and reach the people who can use it, and to bring together the researchers, practitioners, students and communities who care about it.
Publish
We help landscape research and practice reach both broad and specialist audiences. The Landscape Exchange is our open, multimedia home for accessible research, ideas, stories, photography, film and creative practice from around the world. Alongside it, our international peer-reviewed journal Landscape Research publishes scholarship, and Landscape Research Extra and other titles carry longer-form and historic work.
Connect
Landscape questions cross disciplines, sectors and borders, and so do we. Our regional and thematic networks bring people together to share knowledge in their own languages and contexts, from long-established groups to newly forming ones. Membership, partnerships and a wider international community link everyone working on landscape into one conversation.
Fund
Through the LRG Research Fund we support new and developing work at every career stage, from early ideas to established projects. Grants and funding help landscape research take shape and reach the people it can benefit, and the results are shared openly through the Exchange.
Convene
We bring the landscape community together to share ideas and learn from one another, through conferences, our research showcase, symposia, webinars and field visits. In 2027 the Group marks its sixtieth anniversary with a year of events.
Get involved
