The Exchange is free to read and free to contribute to. Members can pitch or submit at any time.

Contribute your work

The Landscape Exchange is an editorially reviewed publication, not an academically peer-reviewed one. This page sets out how we review and publish work, and what we ask of the people who contribute it.

The Exchange exists to help landscape ideas travel quickly and reach wider audiences. It sits alongside our peer-reviewed journal, Landscape Research, but has a different job: accessible, engaging writing, conversation, images, audio and video from people working across research, practice, community and creative fields.

How review works

Every submission is read by an editor. We may accept a contribution, suggest edits or ask for clarification, recommend a different format or approach, or decide that a piece is not right for the Exchange. Submission does not guarantee publication.

As part of publishing, we may make minor changes to spelling, grammar, formatting, headings, links and presentation. Where a change could affect the meaning or intent of your work, we will consult you first.

What we look for

Landscape in its broadest sense. You do not need to write like an academic, but a contribution should be accurate and grounded in relevant research, practice, evidence, experience or observation. Local and highly specific stories are welcome, as long as they give international readers enough context to understand why they matter.

What we ask of contributors

You remain responsible for your contribution, and for ensuring, to the best of your knowledge, that facts, names, quotations, references and links are accurate, that your work does not unlawfully infringe anyone’s rights, that appropriate research, professional and ethical standards have been followed, and that any necessary permissions and consents have been obtained.

We also ask you to be open with us and with readers. Tell us about any funding, professional or commercial interest connected with your work; whether it has been published before; and any substantive use of generative AI. None of these necessarily prevents publication. We ask so that we can be transparent where it matters.

Corrections and updates

If you find a significant error in a published contribution, please tell us so we can consider a correction or update. We will consider reasonable requests to correct, update or remove work, and will remove a contribution from the live site where appropriate. We may also correct or remove material ourselves where there is a serious issue of accuracy, rights, permissions, ethics or law.

The full terms that apply when you submit are set out in the Publication Terms. If you are thinking of contributing, start on the Contribute page.
