Why people are drawn to different landscapes

Why people are drawn to different landscapes

Why People Are Drawn to Different Landscapes explores the emotional, physical and psychological connections people form with coastal and mountain environments. Drawing on interviews with 30 participants in southeast Ireland, Dr Jane Russell-O’Connor and Dr Méabh Savage investigate what attracts people to Tramore’s seascapes and the Comeragh Mountains. The research identifies the importance of childhood memories, wellbeing, sensory experiences, spiritual connections and encounters with nature. It also considers how landscape appreciation can foster environmental awareness and concern for conservation, while opening questions about landscape accessibility and justice.
